Lime Announces New Paris Swappable Battery Pilot At Station F To Advance Sustainability Of Electric Scooters

Lime is taking major steps to advance the sustainability of operations in France.

Today, President Joe Kraus announced the launch of Lime’s new partnership with Station F in Paris and debuted the company’s first swappable battery scooter that will pilot in Paris to further advance the sustainability of Lime’s Parisian operations.

For the last year, Lime has powered its warehouse on 100% French-based renewable energy and announced a transition of its corporate vehicle fleet for managing operations to zero-emissions electric vans.

“Paris and Lyon, among other French cities, are leading the world in moving people out of cars and into more sustainable forms of transportation, aligning with Lime’s mission of making cities more livable,” said Kraus. “As the most reliable and proven micromobility provider in the world, we are very much committed to being a part of that solution, and we see Paris as a perfect fit to pilot our most sustainable operations model yet.”

SWAPPABLE BATTERY SCOOTERS

The launch of an e-scooter model with a swappable battery is an important milestone in Lime’s sustainability journey. Swappable batteries allow e-scooters to be recharged without traveling to and from a charging location every day, reducing vehicle use for managing scooters.  With this change, Lime’s operations team will also be able to use more cargo bikes to swap batteries, reducing local congestion and pollution.

sustainability report released in October found that Lime’s scooter program had prevented 1.2 million motor vehicle trips and kept more than 330 metric tons of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere.

“Lime is relentless in pushing the boundaries of innovation, and we continue to make rapid advances in becoming an ever-more sustainable company, taking a methodical and data-informed approach to all work we do on this front.” said Kraus. “This model will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of our operations and reduce the vehicles needed for charging.”

As part of the pilot, Lime will be measuring the impact to ensure environmental and professional safety at every step in the process. Based on the results of the pilot, the company plans to begin the transition to a fully-swappable fleet by the end of the year.

STATION F

Lime also announced today a move of its Paris headquarters to Station F. With Lime’s move to Station F, the company will now be anchored in the epicentre of innovation, providing Lime with the ability to coach and share expertise with other mobility start-ups to support the development of sustainable mobility in France.
